Regional Cross Country Results

A busy weekend of high school sports included the regional cross country meets on Saturday. Eleven area teams and even more individuals qualified for State, which is Saturday, October 29th.

In the 1A Regional at Leonardville Golf Course, the Axtell boys took 1st and the girls team finished in 2nd to qualify. Shane Torrey placed fourth to lead the Axtell boys. Austin Schmitz (9th), Tracey Schmitz (12th), Christian Buessing (16th), Jan Mizner (23rd) and Nick Koch (49th) will also make the trip to State for the Eagles, which is in Wamego. Lukas Koch of Centralia won Regionals and Adam Koch of Frankfort finished 2nd. They, along with Centralia‘s Blake Henry (7th) will run at State as individual qualifiers. Axtell‘s Audrey Schmitz led the Lady Eagles with a 2nd place finish to help her team qualify, along with teammates Susan Peschel (7th), Tricia Schmitz (11th), Paige Werner (18th) and Anna-Lisa Griewe (19th). Mollee Weber took 13th to punch her ticket to the State meet as well.

Jefferson County North and Washington County will send both girls and boys teams to State after JCN took 1st place in both events while the Washington boys finished 2nd and the girls were 3rd. Jeff County North had four Top 10 runners led by Dallas Edwards (1st), Billy Noll (2nd), Devon Wilson (5th) and Brett Manville (6th). Washington County‘s ticket to State was punched thanks to Dylan Hodgson (8th), Tyler Kongs (9th), Tristan Miller (15th), and Evan McGatlin (16th). Tyler Dively of Doniphan West placed 11th to qualify individually, as did Hunter Hosler of Valley Falls (12th). The JCN girls were led by Laramie Leakey, Kim Cooper and Jordyn Mize, who placed 2nd, 6th and 8th, respectively. Kaitlynn Little of Jackson Heights qualified with a 3rd place finish and will be joined at State by her teammate Emma Perez (10th).

In 3A, The Nemaha Valley and Sabetha boys teams make the trip to Rim Rock for State after 1st and 2nd place team finishes. Collin Lierz of Nemaha Valley (5th), Kaleb Swart (8th) and Mikeal Sperfslage (10th) set the pace for the Raiders. Sabetha was led by Trenton Cox (6th) and Corbin Cox (7th), along with Josiah Rokey (17th) and Noah Krehbiel (20th). Tony Weber (1st) of Pleasant Ridge and Trevor Myers (3rd) of ACCHS qualified as individuals for State. In the girls race, Sabetha (2nd) and Pleasant Ridge (3rd) both will send their teams to State. Miranda Huettner (3rd) and Brianna Gruber (7th) led Sabetha, along with Lindsey Aberle (16th) and Maggie Clary (20th). Leah Murata (5th) and Hannah Stirton (14th) will represent Horton at State. Hannah Corpstein (9th) and Nemaha Valley‘s MiKayla Peterson (10th) also qualified.

The Hiawatha boys team placed 2nd at the Concordia Regional to qualify for State. Hiawatha was led by Cale Heiniger (4th), Chris Babel (5th) and Nic Babel (22nd). In the girls race, Hiwatha‘s Jordan Puvogel individually qualified with a 3rd place finish and Holton will be represented by Rachelle Harmon (6th) and Connor Strader (8th).
