Twin Valley League Tournament (Championship matchups)

Wetmore vs. Washington County (Girls’ Varsity Championship)

“Player to Bank On”: Kylie Penning (Washington County) 14 points

It was a huge third quarter, 24-7, from the undefeated Washington County Tigers that gave them commanding lead over the Wetmore Cardinals and helped them notched their second Twin Valley League Tournament title, in back-to-back years, winning by a score of 67-43. It was a nine-point lead for Washington County at the half but again it was the third quarter that really put the Tigers in the driver’s seat. The Tigers offense was sparked by junior, Kylie Penning in the third quarter as she scored 12 of her 14 points in that quarter for her squad.

The Tigers finished with nine players recording tallies in the scorers book; Penning leading all scorers with her 14 points, while senior guard, Morgan Bisnette notched 13 points, junior guard, Megan Stegman netted nine points, while three other Tigers scored eight points each. For the Wetmore Cardinals they had eight players get into the scorers book, but only one was able to notch double figures, that being senior, Nicole Boden with 10 points.

Washington County stayed undefeated on the season with the win, improving to 12-0 on the season, notching their second straight Twin Valley League tournament title as well. Wetmore fell to 9-2 on the season with both losses coming at that hands of Washington County.

Frankfort vs. Hanover (Boys’ Varsity Championship)

“Player to Bank On”: Ethan Diederich (Hanover) 13 points

In a showdown of Wildcats in the Twin Valley League Tournament championship game, it was a close one throughout and came down to who would win the fourth quarter. Well, the answer would be the Hanover Wildcats winning the fourth quarter 14-6 over the Frankfort Wildcats. The game was tied after the first quarter, Frankfort went into halftime with a three-point lead and clung to a one-point lead going into the fourth quarter, but it was ultimately the fourth quarter that decided things, giving Hanover the 47-40 win.

Senior forward, was the only Hanover player who scored double figures with 13 points, but it was his hustle plays inside that paint that really made the difference for Hanover in the game, especially in the second half. Three other Wildcats for Hanover finished the night with nine points. For Frankfort it was senior center, Jacob Broxterman leading the way with 15 points in the loss and also junior guard, Calahan Brown tallied double figures with, 11 points.

With the win Hanover won their third Twin Valley League Tournament title in tournament history and second consecutive; while also improving their record to 11-1 on the season. Frankfort who advanced to the championship as an eight seed, fell to 8-5 on the season with the loss.
