“Player to Bank On”: Jacob Broxterman (Frankfort) 22 points (hit game-winning free throw)

It was a game that needed overtime to decide who would punch their ticket to the Twin Valley League Tournament championship game. It was a tale of two quarters in the second half with the Frankfort Wildcats have a three-point lead at the half they stretched that lead to 10 with a 15-7 third quarter. Though the Centralia Panthers wouldn’t give up down by double digits they outscored Frankfort 17-7 in the fourth quarter to tie the game and go to overtime. In overtime the Wildcats had the ball at the end with a chance to win and it was senior center, Jacob Broxterman, who got himself fouled and headed to the free throw line. Broxterman made one of two free throws to give Frankfort the 49-48 lead and the ultimate victory.

Frankfort used a great performance from their big men inside to get the victory, especially Broxterman who finished with 22 points in the game, including the game-winning free throw. Senior forward, Jonathan Keating also netted double figures in the game with 15 points for the Wildcats. For the Panthers of Centralia it two players who combined for 39 of their 48 points, as only four Panthers scored in the game. Centralia senior guard, Michael Glatzcak had 22 points and sophomore forward, Sam Steinlage tallied 17 points.

With the overtime win the Frankfort Wildcats improved to 8-4 on the season and advanced to the Twin Valley League championship; while the Centralia Panthers suffered their second loss of the season and now sit a 8-2 on the season now.


Hanover vs. B&B (Boys’ Varsity Semifinal)

“Player to Bank On”: Brent Bruna (Hanover) 20 points

In a showdown of two teams with only one loss on the season the Hanover Wildcats and the B&B Falcons were trying to punch their ticket to the Twin Valley League Tournament championship game. It was a close game for most of the game, with B&B clinging to a one-point lead at the half; but Hanover was able to make little runs in the second half outscoring the Falcons by six in the third quarter and five in the fourth quarter, to snatch a 10-point win, 58-48.

The Wildcats had a great performance from their senior point guard, Brent Bruna who nailed four three-pointers on his way to a game-high 20 points. Two other Hanover players scored in double figures with senior, Ethan Diederich and junior, Cody Nieman, notching 13 and 11 points, respectively. The B&B Falcons also had three players score double digits each, but it just wasn’t enough in the game. Seniors, Cody Heiman and Eric Huerter had 12 and 11 points, respectively; while junior center, Curtis Stallbaumer had 10 points on the night.

With the win Hanover advanced to the Twin Valley League Tournament championship game for the second straight year, in search of back-to-back tourney titles, as they will play Frankfort in the championship. Wildcats moved their record to 10-1 with the win. B&B fell to 9-2 on the season with the loss and will take on Centralia in the tournament’s third place game.
