Girls’ Varsity: Josie Hale (Frankfort) 23 points
It was a big night for junior forward, Josie Hale notching 23 points to help lead her Frankfort Wildcat team to the 51-28 victory at home over the visiting Axtell Eagles. It was only a two-point game after the first quarter, but it was the second quarter when the scoring barrage from Hale commenced. Hale netted 11 of her 23 in the second quarter, to spark an 18-6 quarter and give Frankfort control of the contest.
Only four players scored for the Wildcats on the night with three of them accounting for 50 of the 51 points. Senior, MyKaela Smart and junior, Jessa Jones each notched double figures to go along with Hale’s 23. Smart tallied 15 points while Jones scored 12 on the evening. Junior, Bridget Volle led all Eagles scorers on the evening with 17 points in the loss.
Axtell fell to 2-10 on the season with the loss, while Frankfort improved to 9-6 with the victory.
Boys’ Varsity: Calahan Brown (Frankfort) 22 points
The Frankfort Wildcats boys’ squad completed the sweep for their school over the Axtell Eagles with a 47-28 victory. Frankfort got out to a lead in the first half and took a 14-point margin into halftime, leading Axtell 30-16. The second half was low scoring but Frankfort was able to stretch their lead a little more in the fourth quarter and notch their 10 win of the season.
Leading the way for the Wildcats on the night was junior guard, Calahan Brown with 22 points, doing most of his damage along the baseline with moves to the basket with and without the ball. One other Wildcat scored double figures on the night, that being senior center, Jacob Broxterman who finished with 14 points. Axtell struggled from the horn in the game and had only one play score double figures, that being junior, Aaron Schmelzle who tallied 11 points; sophomore guard, Derek Porting had nine for the Eagles in the loss, as well.
Axtell fell to 2-10 on the season with the loss, ending their two-game winning streak. While Frankfort improved to 10-5 on the year with the victory.
