Holton’s Chief of Police is alerting citizens about two scams.
Chief of Police Gale Gakle said a local resident notified him today ( Thursday ) that she had received a call from man saying he was with Publisher’s Clearinghouse. The woman was told she had won a million dollars and a new car.

In addition, Gakle said he was informed today ( Thursday ) of another scam circulating in the community.
He said he was told several Holton resident’s had been contacted by someone claiming to be from Microsoft, and informed there is some type of virus on their computer.
Gakle says the caller offers to fix the problem if they are given remote access to their computer and a credit card number. He says they then actually install a virus on their computer.
Gakle says if you receive such calls, hang up and contact your local law enforcement agency.
He said to remember if something sounds too good to be true---it probably is.
