Girl‘s Varsity: Holly Kuckelman (Nemaha Valley) 13 points
Nemaha Valley Lady Raiders started the season off with a bang getting a win at home over Hanover, 46-37. Senior forward, Holly Kuckelman helped pace the way for the Raiders with 13 points, leading the squad for the night. Kuckelman not only did the scoring but also showed senior leadership on the court, helping the Raiders to their first victory of the season.
Boy‘s Varsity: Alex Hermesch (Nemaha Valley) 14 points
The Nemaha Valley Raiders boy‘s varsity squad got into an offensive groove in the season opener against Hanover and came away with the 59-44 win. With no returning starters back, head coach, Jon Thomas was going to need guys to step up this year and some players did. Trent Olberding, junior guard, lead the team in scoring but it was a balanced attack with senior forward, Alex Hermesch chipping in 14 points. Hermesch came on in the second half, scoring some key buckets for the Raiders and displayed leadership on the court for head coach Jon Thomas.
